received amounting to 822,145. It was explained in paragraph

+44 11 (g) of Sir Henry Hay's Despatch No. 330 of 7th. October,

1910, that an estimate of the cost of erection of a Lighthouse

and quarters on Kapsing Island had not then been obtained. The

Crown Agents have since accepted on behalf of this Government

a tender for the supply of a 5th. order double flashing light

and steel openwork structure at a cost of £797

sum together with the cost of the erection both of the

structure and of quarters for caretakers together with the

cost of duplicate sets of clock-work and main working parts

will amount approximately to the estimate now inserted. I have

provided £30,000 for an operating theatre at the Government

Civil Hospital. This work so necessary in the interests of

aseptic surgery was suggested by the Principal Civil Medical

Officer as far back as 1901 but has had to be postponed from

year to year owing to lack of funds; and $5,000 for the tiling

of lavatories which in their present state are unsightly and

require constant repairs. $25,000 has been set apart to provide

additional accommodation for Public Works Stores, the present

covered store space being insufficient for their proper

protection. An extension to the slaughter-house and depot for

pies at Kennedy Town is urgently needed and I propose to ask
